Heb 9:1 Then verily the first [old] covenant had also ordinances [regulations] of divine service [worship], and [also] a worldly [earthly] sanctuary.
Heb 9:2 For there was a tabernacle made; the first [room], wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.
Heb 9:3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;
Heb 9:4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables [stone tablets] of the [old] covenant [on which were written the 10 commandments];
Heb 9:5 And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.
Heb 9:6 Now when these things were thus ordained, the [Levitical priesthood] priests went always into the first tabernacle [outer room], accomplishing the service of God.
Heb 9:7 But into the second went the [Levitical priesthood] high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
Heb 9:8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
Heb 9:9 Which was a figure [illustration] for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience [not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper];
Heb 9:10 Which stood only in [only a matter of] meats and drinks, and divers [various ceremonial] washings, and carnal [external] ordinances [regulations], imposed on them until the time of reformation [of the new order (of Melchisedec)].
~ The Blood of Christ is the Blood of the New Covenant
Heb 9:11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands [heavenly], that is to say, not of this building [creation];
Heb 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he [Christ] entered in once [for all] into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Heb 9:13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh [so that they are outwardly clean]:
Heb 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot [unblemished, without sin] to God, purge [cleanse] your conscience from dead works [acts that lead to death] to [so that we may] serve the living God?
Heb 9:15 And for this cause [reason] he [Christ] is the mediator of the new testament [new covenant], that by means of death [now that Christ has died as a ransom], for the redemption of the transgressions [sins] that were under the first [old] testament [old covenant], they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
Heb 9:16 For where a testament is [in the case of a will], there must also of necessity be the death of the testator [of the one who made it].
Heb 9:17 For a testament [will] is of force [only] after men are dead [someone has died]: otherwise it is of no strength [never takes effect] at all while the testator [the one who made it] liveth.
Heb 9:18 Whereupon neither the first [old] testament [covenant] was dedicated [put into effect] without blood.
Heb 9:19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,
Heb 9:20 Saying, This is the blood of the [old] testament [covenant] which God hath enjoined [commanded] unto you [to keep].
Heb 9:21 Moreover he [Moses] sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without [the] shedding of blood [there] is no remission [no forgiveness].
Heb 9:23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns [earthly copies] of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
Heb 9:24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places [sanctuary] made with hands [man-made], which are the figures [only an earthly copy] of the true [one in heaven]; but [Christ entered] into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us [as our heavenly high priest (Christ)]:
Heb 9:25 Nor yet that he [Christ] should offer himself often [again and again], as the [Levitical priesthood] high priest entereth into the holy place [on earth] every year with blood of others [blood that is not his own (of sacrificed animals)];
Heb 9:26 For then must he [Christ] often have suffered [many times] since the foundation [creation] of the world: but now [he, Christ, has appeared] once [for all] in [at] the end of the world [ages] hath he appeared to put [do] away [with] sin by the sacrifice of himself [Christ].
Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
Heb 9:28 So
Christ was once offered [sacrificed once] to bear
[take on and pay for, thereby taking away,] the sins of many;
and unto them that look for him shall he [Christ] appear
the second time without sin [not to bear sin, but to bring] unto
[those who are waiting for him] salvation.
